What is AFCAT?
The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is a national-level written examination organized by the Indian Air Force to select officers for its three branches: Ground Duty, Technical and Flying. The Ground Duty Branch undertakes Administration, Logistics, Accounts, Education and Meteorology. The Technical Branch assumes responsibilities of the Electronic and Mechanical Details, while the Flying Branch is reserved for Helicopters, Fighters and Transporters.

1. For Flying Branch
- Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a known university with 60% and 12th pass with 60% marks in Physics and Maths.
- Candidate age should be between 20 years old to 24 years old.
2. For Ground Duty Technical
- Candidates must have a degree from a known university with 60% marks.
- Candidate age should be between 20 years old to 26 years old
3. For Ground Duty Non-Technical
- Candidates must have a degree from a known university with physics, mathematics, chemistry, statistics, International relations, defence studies, Psychology, computer science , IT, Management, Mass Communication etc with a 50% marks in aggregate on all papers.
- Candidate age should be between 20 years old to 26 years old.

AFCAT Examination FAQs
Visit the official website of IAF AFCAT. Go to the Candidate’s Login tab and click on the AFCAT cycle. Click on ‘New Registration’, submit the details and receive the registered identification and password on your phone number. Use that to log in, fill up the IAF AFCAT application and form, make the payment of ₹250, and submit. Download a copy. There is no fixed number of attempts for the AFCAT examination, but you can score high marks with the best AFCAT online coaching. The forms are available in November and December (AFCAT Part 1) and May and June (AFCAT Part 2).

Flying Branch
20 to 24 years (Candidates who hold a current and valid commercial pilot license are eligible until 26 years of age). A three-year graduation degree in any discipline from a reputed university with a minimum of 60 per cent marks or have passed Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level; a four-year Bachelor's in Engineering (B.E.) or Technology (B.Tech); Sections A and B of the Associate Membership of Institute of Engineers (India) or the Aeronautical Society from a reputed university with a minimum of 60 per cent marks.
Administration and Logistics
A three-year graduation degree in any discipline from a reputed university with 60 per cent marks; Sections A and B of the Associate Membership of Institute of Engineers (India) or the Aeronautical Society from a reputed university with a minimum of 60 per cent marks.
Accounts
A three-year graduation degree from a reputed university with a minimum of 60 per cent or equivalent.
Education
MBA/MCA or MSc/MA in Physics/Chemistry/International Relations/Mathematics/International Studies/International Relations/Computer Science/Defence Studies/IT/Journalism/Mass Communication/English and Public Relations with a minimum of 50 per cent in aggregate in the two-year postgraduate program and 60 per cent marks in a three-year graduation degree (both recognized by the University Grants Commission).
Candidates attempt 100 questions (300 marks) in two hours, and one mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. Here’s the paper pattern for the AFCAT exam:
- Verbal Calibre in English (25 questions): Grammar Correction, Vocabulary Testing, Sentence Structuring, Synonyms and Antonyms, and Comprehension.
- General Awareness (25 questions): Basic Geography, History, Civics, Sports, Current Affairs, Politics, Defence, Art, Environment, Culture, Politics.
- Reasoning Military Aptitude Test (32 questions): Spatial Ability and Verbal Skills.
- Numerical Calibre (18 questions): Decimal Fractions, Profit and Loss, Ratio and Proportion, Simple Interest, Percentage, and Simplification.
